Northview Middle School is always striving to meet the needs of students and staff. In recent years, concerns have been raised about the current schedule model. Some feel that the length of class periods is a bit problematic; the concern is that Falcon day periods are too short and that block day periods are too long. As such, for the past year, administrators and faculty members have been studying schedule models and discussing options for Northview. After much deliberation, the staff voted in favor of testing a new schedule during the 2018-2019 school year.

From October 16th to November 16th, Northview Middle School will be participating in a pilot of the Drop 2 Schedule Model. At the end of the pilot, input will be gathered from all stakeholders – students, parents, the faculty and staff – and a decision will be made as to whether the Drop 2 Schedule is the best fit for Northview. If there is a decision in favor of the Drop 2 Schedule, a permanent change could happen as soon as second semester or possibly the 2019-2020 school year.

Drop 2 Highlights:

  •   Each day, there will be an advisory period and 6 of students’ 8 classes will meet. The classes that are “dropped” shift to the start of the next day.

  •   Class periods will be approximately 52 minutes long, making them slightly longer than a Falcon day period and shorter than a block day period.

  •   The Advisory period will be 25 minutes long and will start off the schedule every morning.

  •   Every class will meet 3 times in the 4-day schedule cycle. Once a cycle ends (Day 4), a new one begins (back to Day 1).

  •   Classes will still meet in the same order, but with the shifting of classes in the Drop 2 schedule cycle, they will meet at different

    times of the day.

Additional information will be available soon. Thank you so much for your flexibility and cooperation!
